Eeee!! My due date is tomorrow and we’re getting so excited to meet this special little lady. 💗
Knowing that she’ll be here soon, I wanted to share a little #pregnancyupdate. To make a long story short, at 33 weeks (the Monday before my baby shower) @eyesaacbrews and I found out that our baby has congenital heart disease. With her current diagnosis, based on a slew of fetal echocardiograms, the doctors are quite certain that she will need surgery within the first week of life in order to survive. Needless to say, the last six weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions and planning as we’ve met with pediatric cardiologists, toured multiple hospitals in VA and DC and interviewed surgeons.
Not exactly what we had envisioned we’d be doing leading up to our first baby’s birth, but we are incredibly grateful that we know about her condition ahead of time and that we’ve had this time to process and prepare. Overall, we’re both feeling really positive, confident in the team we’ve chosen to care for her and have faith that she’s going to be one tough little cookie who amazes us throughout this whole process. 👶🏻🎀🙏🏼
I have a full post on the blog with more details if you’re interested in her exact diagnosis or just want to know the full story.
I honestly wasn’t sure if I wanted to share any of this here on EBF because it’s all very raw and we’re still in the midst of navigating everything, but I’ve decided I want to be open and share some of our journey, if and when it makes sense. CHD is the most common birth defect so I know we’re not alone in this and I’ve found comfort from others sharing their experience. If this resonates and somehow helps just one other person, it’s worth it. ❤️ #chd #chdawareness #heartbaby 📸: @_michelle_chu
