Confession: I was scared to get pregnant… mainly because of the weight gain. I’ve had to work hard to stay healthy and fit (it doesn’t come easily for me) and I was scared that pregnancy might ruin all my hard work.
But so far the grace I’ve given myself has been unlike any other and the whole experience has been awesome for my mindset. For the first time in my life seeing the scale go up or noticing that my belly sticks out doesn’t make me feel defeated. When I tried on my shorts from last year and none of them fit, I happily went to the store and bought new ones that are comfortable and made me feel good. #gamechanger
And right now is probably the most intuitive I’ve ever been about food and exercise before. I’m not counting or tracking anything, I’m eating when I’m hungry and I’m eating what I want. Some days that’s an old fashioned donut or ice cream and some days it’s oatmeal, salads and baked sweet potato fries.
There are days I feel awesome and working out sounds lovely and then there are multiple days in a row where I feel tired and uninspired to workout so I don’t…. and I don’t feel guilty about it.
At the same time, healthy eating and moving my body has new meaning. I want to eat nutrient dense food so all the good stuff fuels my babe’s growth. Moving my body makes me feel good mentally, plus I know staying strong and fit will help with labor!
I’ve always prided myself on having a balanced approach to health and wellness, but pregnancy has honestly helped me listen to my body even more. I’m sure my mindset will keep evolving throughout the pregnancy (and I know it’s not going to be all flowers and rainbows), but I’m excited for the process and wanted to share how I’m feeling 17 weeks in. 💗 .

  • Love reading this! Pregnancy and postpartum weight gain and redistribution is a crazy thing. I have struggled with body image for years, but I felt so beautiful and in love with my bump when I was pregnant. I had down days (and still do 4 years later!), but you really do learn to appreciate your body in new ways.💛💛

  • You’re lucky to have a pretty easy early pregnancy. I struggled with nausea until the day I delivered. It was terrible

  • Oh and when your breastfeeding you can eat whatever you want!! You’ll be burning so many calories!! Just be careful for the weaning you’ll still be hungry but not burning as much. .it kind of sucks!

  • It’s amazing how your mindset changes becoming a mama. While you still take care of yourself, that little person becomes such a priority that things that used to feel so important become less so. Enjoy this beautiful time ❤❤
